Mailbox Monday

I’m participating in Mailbox Monday from Marcia at The Printed Page.

I’ve been a very bad girl– and I couldn’t be happier about it!

After weeks of behaving myself, book-wise, I had a bunch of books arrive on my doorstep.  Worse than that, I requested even more!

Cancer VixenThe first to arrive wasn’t my fault, really!  I don’t think I requested Cancer Vixen: A True Story
 by Marisa Acocella Marchetto. It looks really intriguing, though, so I’m glad it came– but I don’t know when I’ll get to it :-( .

Smart One and Pretty OneThen I had a really big day, all with books that I was expecting. 

First was The Smart One and the Pretty One by Claire LaZebnik. I’ll be hosting a giveaway for this book, thanks to Hachette Book Group! I really need some good chick lit right now, but I’ve got two other books (that also are calling me) to read first.

Also in the mail that day were the reissues of Betsy-Tacy books 5 to 10! My daughter has already picked up Heaven to Betsy, and is enjoying it. I’ll start reading these in the next week or so, I’m really looking forward to it!

Review: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Catching Fire (Hunger Games, #2)My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh my.

I wasn’t sure where this book was going to go. I had some suspicions, some of which kind of came true, but I never imagined Suzanne Collins would do THAT.

I enjoyed the first half of the book, but it didn’t have quite the same punch that The Hunger Games had. I though maybe it was asking too much for this book to live up to the unexpected greatness of the previous book.

Then everything changed.

This book had everything that Hunger Games did, and then some. Adventure? Check. Great characters? Check. Social commentary? Check. Just straight out good read? Check.

As with The Hunger Games, the narrator did a great job.

Overall, just WOW.

This was a really hard book to review without giving too much away. I’m really glad I didn’t know more when I went in, and I want to allow my readers the same opportunity.

And no, I don’t have an answer on Team Gale vs. Team Peeta. For me, it would be Peeta all the way, but I wonder if Gale would be better for Katniss. Really, she’s too young to decide!
