Giveaway: Edge of Sight by Roxanne St. Claire

Yesterday, I reviewed Roxanne St. Claire’s book Edge of Sight. I liked it, but it sounds like everyone else who has read it loved it!

If you want to see for yourself, enter this giveaway.

Thanks to Hachette Book group, I’m giving away 3 copies of Edge of Sight!

To Enter

Hachette Books/Grand Central Publishing are allowing me to pick 2 winners of this book.

Having an address (not a PO Box) in the US or Canada is a requirement. I’ll pick the winners on the evening of September 24, 2010.  One winner per household– if you win on two blogs, please let one of us know, so we can pick a new winner (and thank you to all of my readers that already do this!)

So:

  1. Leave a comment to enter.  I’ll get your e-mail address if you are on WordPress or you enter it where requested.  Make sure it is valid!  This is all you need to do.
  2. If you have additional entries (see below), you can leave them in the same comment, or a different one.  Whatever you prefer.
  3. For an additional entry, let me know if you subscribe to my blog via a blog reader (RSS) or e-mail, or if you follow me on Twitter. Thank you to my current subscribers, Welcome if you are new to my blog.

  5. For a bonus entry– At some point in pretty much every romantic suspense novel, the female lead is kidnapped or otherwise held by the bad guys.  Do you prefer for her to free herself (with the hero getting there just a few seconds too late to get her), for her to free herself and the hero, for her to make a valiant effort but need his help in the end, or just sit back, knowing Her Hero will come to the rescue?

This giveaway ends November 19th.

Good luck!

Giveaway: Home Again by Mariah Stewart

Home Again is the second book in Mariah Stewart’s Chesapeake Diaries series.  Having read the first and the second book, I think that this one really does stand alone, and it won’t diminish your enjoyment of either one if you read them out of order.

Unfortunately, reading the back cover might, so I need to come up with my own summary!  (Click here for my full review)

Dallas MacGregor is a highly successful Hollywood actress– but that success didn’t carry over to her choice of husband.  Luckily, the divorce was almost final before his latest creative endeavor, a sex tape with two young women, hit the Internet.  It’s pretty clear that his interest in Dallas is only what she could do for his career, and his interest in their 6 year old son is non-existent.

Dallas returns to her childhood retreat and the one person that can really understand the pressures of Hollywood life– Her Great Aunt Berry, a Hollywood legend, and her  estate in a small town.

Dallas begins to rebuild her life, and build a new life for her son, while she tries to figure out what role (if any) her childhood sweetheart will play.

If you want to know more, read an excerpt.

As part of the Home Again Blog Tour, I have one copy of Home Again available from Random House for a lucky winner!

Giveaway: Oogy by Larry Levin

Oogy: The Dog Only a Family Could Love

I’m really more of a cat person than a dog person.  Although I still really want a new kitten someday, I’m beginning to understand the charms of a sweet, well behaved dog.

When I was at BEA (Book Expo America) I saw this book, and the cover reached out and grabbed me.   When I got home, it had the same effect on my daughter.   I haven’t read it yet, but will soon– check back here for my review.

In 2002, Larry Levin and his twin sons, Dan and Noah, took their terminally ill cat to the Ardmore Animal Hospital outside Philadelphia to have the beloved pet put to sleep. What would begin as a terrible day suddenly got brighter as the ugliest dog they had ever seen–one who was missing an ear and had half his face covered in scar tissue–ran up to them and captured their hearts. The dog had been used as bait for fighting dogs when he was just a few months old. He had been thrown in a cage and left to die until the police rescued him and the staff at Ardmore Animal Hospital saved his life. The Levins, whose sons are themselves adopted, were unable to resist Oogy’s charms, and decided to take him home.

Heartwarming and redemptive, OOGY is the story of the people who were determined to rescue this dog against all odds, and of the family who took him home, named him “Oogy” (an affectionate derivative of ugly), and made him one of their own.

Oogy will be in stores on October 12.   If you win this giveaway, you may or may not have it in your hands by then, but it should be close!

Good luck!

Warning, the story in this video is horribly sad.

Winners and more: The Disappearing Spoon by Sam Kean

The Disappearing Spoon is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year (see my review), and I think it will have a very wide appeal.  I’m very excited to be able to pick 2 people to win a copy, thanks to Little, Brown and Company/Hachette Books.  I strongly encourage everyone else to obtain a copy from their book provider of choice, and support the production of fantastic books like this one.

Sam Kean will be interviewed next week on Blog Talk Radio next week, and I’m including the announcement at the end of this post.

The lucky winners are:

  • Bailey
  • Barbara

Thank you to everyone that answered the bonus question– I enjoyed reading the responses, particularly the punny ones (“My favorite element is Iron because when you put a lot of Fe in a circle you have a ferrous wheel.”) .  All together, 16 different elements were mentioned, with gold getting the top spot (with 5 people including it), followed by iron.

Blog Talk Radio Announcement

(I’m including this announcement because I want to support the book.  I don’t know anything more about it that is listed here, I’m aware there is an issue with the date listed.  I think it’s Wednesday, not Thursday, but I’ve sent e-mail to clarify!)

Join us as we interview

Sam Kean, author of THE DISAPPEARING SPOON

On BlogTalkRadio

Thursday, Aug. 18, 2 PM ET

Sizzling Summer Nights Super Giveaway

I’m not sure what season is best for steamy hot reads.  Are they best suited to hot summer days where you’re already steaming, or cold winter nights when you need something to warm you up?

I’m not sure it matters, but this summer I’ve been reading more romances again (But not too many. Within my eclectic reading, I do go through phases.  I’ve learned to spread out my reading, otherwise I’ll get tired of a genre, and I’m having too much fun to let that happen!).

I’ve read (and enjoyed) two of the books in this giveaway, so I jumped at the chance to share it with you.  These two were very different (contemporary romantic suspense and historical romance), and the other 3 each have their own style.  To Surrender to a Rogue and Deadly Fear both featured interesting characters, some very spicy scenes, and a readable plot to tie it all together.  I’ll bet the other three do as well.

In this collection, we have:
